Are you frustrated by your financial situation? Are you tired of not saving enough money – or you have too much lying around? Are you concerned about what you’ve invested in so far (if anything) and what to invest in for your future?
Are you ready to change that? Then this program is for you.
Welcome to the ultimate 6-month expat personal finance program: combining online sessions, self-paced learning, private 1-on-1 coaching, step-by-step guides, tools, community and accountability.
We have provided all these things to thousands of expats just like you, and now we’ve combined them into one program. All the content is available in different formats so you can learn slowly & steadily or skip ahead if you’re in a hurry.
Lots of information out there is fragmented, confusing or not targeted at expats. We will give you the foundational knowledge, practical step-by-step guides and friendly coaching support you need to take control of your planning, saving & investing with confidence. Absolute beginners welcome.
By the end (and probably well before the end) of this program, you will have:
The program is structured so you can get quick wins from Day 1, and move as fast or as slow as you need.
Recent feedback from FTP members:
“FTP is life-changing and has helped me and my husband take more control over our financial future – and will support us in many ways for the rest of our lives. We love how Steve coaches the whole of the person / situation and it’s the perfect blend of support, guidance, advice and experience. I am so glad that I signed up and it is worth its weight in gold. Thank you Steve!”
“I like the ability to self pace and I like being accountable.”
“I feel like there is around the clock support.”
“I think the information is excellent and super well/clearly delivered. I also love the coaching sessions and find them super helpful.”
“What has most improved is understanding all the elements I need to consider – I had no idea before and now I understand the things I need to do.”

17 February to late May 2025
There will be live weekly online knowledge sessions (1-1.5 hours, also recorded) including Q&A and some guest speakers, plus monthly accountability sessions. We will run parallel tracks on Planning & Saving and Investing to accelerate progress.
There will also be ongoing support in the program’s community group and 4 one-on-one private coaching sessions with Steve for each member (one of these sessions is for you to use in the 6-12 months after the program to review your progress and tackle any new challenges).
Late May to late July 2025
We move from knowledge sharing to consolidation as you take further action on what you have learned. There will be regular Q&A and accountability sessions, as well as private coaching sessions.
This is what you will get:
If you would like to discuss the program before you sign up, you can book a quick chat with me here.
Let’s say you invest $2000 per month for 25 years. In a long-term savings plan or bank savings account, let’s assume 3% growth (which is sadly unlikely): you will have turned your $600k into $894k. After the workshop, you aim to invest at 7% growth and keep fees down to 1%: you’ll have $1.4 million – that’s an extra 500k for a great retirement! And that’s a 250x return on your program cost 🙂
Yes, if you’re ready to learn (we try to make that interesting!) and then take action to sort out your finances and invest. The learning sessions, private sessions, accountability and community, rapid responsiveness, tools and resources combine to give you massive support, whichever way you prefer to learn. We have run this program 4 times now (and hundreds of workshops before that), so we know what works and what doesn’t.
Yes absolutely, no prior knowledge is required, just a desire to learn and make changes to your financial life. We start from the basics and focus really hard on explaining everything clearly. None of the concepts are particularly difficult, just unfamiliar. We have multiple levels of support if you get stuck and we love ‘stupid’ questions!
Yes, there are so many aspects of expat personal finance and financial independence that you will still learn plenty. Also… you may not be investing in the right way! Revisiting the basics will help strengthen your foundational understanding and I’m sure you’ll benefit from lots of new ideas and practical tips too.
FTP is relevant for all nationalities and we have helped people from all over the world. However, we do not provide support on the global taxation system for US citizens in our content. We can bring in experts on this if you need support in that area.
A lot of planning, saving and investing is relevant wherever you live. We have helped many people in the UAE and the rest of the GCC, but also in Asia, Latin America, the UK, Europe, Australia etc. If you are resident in a high-tax country, we can’t help with the detailed tax regulations of your country (unless it’s the UK), but we can teach you general tax-management principles and the right questions to ask.
Bursary applications are open to anyone earning less than 8000 USD per month. You can apply here. Bursaries are awarded at our discretion.
Steve and the other experts have no affiliation with any financial companies. We do not receive any commission for recommending products or platforms. Where we do make recommendations, it is only because we think they are the best out there. This is very important to us, because so many ‘professionals’ and influencers are promoting things just for the commission.
FTP is incredibly flexible. Even though we have weekly live sessions, you get access to similar content immediately on joining. So if you are in a hurry, you could get through everything in a few days. There are actionable steps from every live session, so you are not just passively learning. Most people will start investing within 2 or 3 months, some faster, some slower. The program offers 6 months of support, not 6 months before you can do anything.
You will have access to the recordings of the live sessions with no time limit after the end of the program. During the 6-month program you get access to all of my online courses as well.
We do not cover the specific income tax and capital gains tax regulations for each country (except the UK in a separate course you have access to). Tax regulations are always changing and you need to talk to a tax expert for that specific country. However, we will help you understand general tax concepts that will be extremely useful and help you avoid nasty tax traps that affect expats.
We do not show you how to invest in crypto, individual stocks, options etc or how to select an investment property. However, all these topics will come up in relation to sensible stock fund investing, so we will discuss them. We will cover mortgages and how to make typical decisions about real estate.
Steve has a Masters degree in Psychology from the University of Cambridge. He also has an Investment Advice Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment in the UK. In fact, they asked him to sit on one of their exam boards! Steve spent over a decade advising banks and sovereign wealth funds at a top strategy consulting firm before focusing on helping individuals (much more enjoyable). Steve has been helping expats since 2016, has worked all over the world and has been an expat for 12 years (also know as the University of Life).
FTP is a safe space – you do not have to reveal anything about your finances or your life to other members. We encourage you to share your experiences, but we will never ask you to share numbers. Steve will go through your financials privately with you (don’t worry, like a doctor, he’s seen it all before!) and anything you share with him will be completely confidential.
FTP is so much more than an online course. We will track your confidence levels as you progress through the program. You can ask questions during the live sessions, in the dedicated Facebook group or by email, and we do our best to reply quickly. The accountability sessions help you to keep making progress with the inevitable personal finance admin, while the private sessions with Steve go deep into the specifics of your own situation. You get the support of our other members as well as Steve and our community manager. We are here to help you and we want you to succeed.
All FTP sessions are streamed online live and recorded. Sometimes we have a live meet-up in Dubai, but you can still join these online if you are in another country. If people want to arrange meet-ups in their country, they are most welcome!
Yes all sessions are recorded except accountability sessions and private coaching sessions, as we want people to be able to speak freely in those sessions.
Yes, FTP is designed for busy people. The average time commitment is 60-90 minutes per week. If you miss a session, you can always catch up via the recording. 6 months gives you plenty of time and flexibility to get everything done.
There are always going to be some numbers in a personal finance discussion, but we are careful not to overwhelm you if numbers don’t come naturally to you. We strip out any unnecessary complexities and there are multiple levels of support to help you achieve your goals. We have plenty of experience in helping people who don’t like numbers!
